Blog #4: The Virus is Hate, Unity is the Cure

Over the past few weeks, I have seen numerous news reports about all of this hatred happening among us. All of these assaults on the Asian-American community are very sick to see, and the aggressors of these crimes are not justifiable. I’m honestly getting fed up by all of this bullshit, especially after the Atlanta shooting that killed eight people.

I know most of my cosplays are based off killers from comic books, but I could never understand why people are motivated to murder innocent people. A statement was released after the Atlanta shooting where the shooter, Robert Long, made the excuse that he was having a “bad day”. As soon as I saw that statement, I knew a certain comment/connection was going to be made, and I eventually saw somebody actually did it (I’m not saying who did it, but if you’re reading it, you know who you are). The comment of course was about how the statement was similar to a quote from the famous graphic novel, The Killing Joke. The quote was “All it takes is one bad day”, and it was said by….

The Joker.

Now obviously the person who made the comment wasn’t comparing the shooter to the Joker, they were just accusing the shooter of sounding like the Joker, but it still bothers me to read that connection. Can we all just agree to leave comics, movies, tv shows, and videogames out of this political mess? We don’t need anymore fucking headlines such as “Videogames Cause Aggression in Teens” or “Gaming is Making People Less Socially Active”, etc….

If people want to bring those forms of entertainment to politics, why not bring in the good lessons they teach us, like the moral of Justice League: Snyder Cut….

Unity conquers all!

That movie taught us that if we stand united against a powerful threat, we would be victorious. We’re the United States of America, and here we are more divided than ever. This clusterfuck of hate needs to stop, but we have to go about it the right way.

Congress passing more regulations on gun control won’t solve anything. Taking away people’s constitutional right to bear Arms would make matters worse since there are people out there who legally buy weapons to protect themselves. Remember how the government restricted alcohol in the 1920s so it could lower the crime rate, where in truth crime just got worse until the prohibition was repealed? Well the same shit is going to happen if the government takes away everyone’s guns! Crime might get worse, but people will definitely get more creative when it comes to hurting people.

“Guns don’t kill people, people kill people“, is a line I like to reflect on from time to time. Focusing on the people who commit these crimes is the key to fixing everything. If the perpetrator is mentally sound they should be judged accordingly in the court of law, but if the perpetrator is not mentally sound, they should receive the problem medical attention to help rehabilitate them.

My point is that we should stop arguing with each other on how to fix these issues, hell we shouldn’t be fighting amongst each other at all. No matter our religion, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or race, we’re all human beings. We’re all a part of one collective species and we should start acting like it!
