*WARNING: THIS ARTICLE WILL BE DISCUSSING THE MESS OF SOCIETY, WOKE CULTURE, AND CANCEL CULTURE*

In the year 2021, what makes somebody an outcast in a society supposedly influenced by acceptance? Having a different opinion. At least that is the case with people like Dave Chappelle and Bill Burr, two people that I believe are the last two true comedians.
For those of you who have been stuck in the woods for the past few weeks without any internet, Netflix released a Dave Chappelle comedy special called The Closer, and it has attracted a lot of attention from the Twitter Puritians who are trying to cancel Chappelle for being “homophobic” and “transphobic” during this special and all of his previous specials. When I first caught wind of this, I immediately told myself “I need to watch that shit”, and after watching it from start to finish, I can honestly say that it was funny as hell!

Everything Chappelle said in The Closer was meant to be taken as a joke and nothing else. He has once never said that he hated gay people or transgender people, and he has admitted that the only group of people he has ever had a problem with are white people (probably the Karens and the Kevins, we all have a problem with them). Throughout the special, he spoke about how people today seem to have the inability to take a joke, and their immediate response to hearing something they don’t like is rant about it on the internet (and yes I do see the irony in that statement, but stay with me here).
Chappelle does bring up a lot of points about today’s society that even I found very obscure, such as the whole situation with the DaBaby. DaBaby got cancelled because he said some pretty hurtful things about the LGBTQ community (not lying here, what he said was a little fucked up), and he did apologize for his comments, but that’s not the end of it. Back in 2018, DaBaby shot and killed a person in a Walmart in self-defense. The rapper literally took a man’s life, and people don’t get upset with him until he makes some homophobic comments on the internet? I am in no way defending the DaBaby, I’m just pointing out how stupid and weird the whole situation is, which is why Chappelle made a joke about it.
Dave Chappelle’s jokes are not only hilarious, but they also make people think for a moment. During my time as a Psych student at Queens College, I learned that certain kinds of jokes people make reflect on that person’s innermost thoughts, which means that all of Dave’s humor in that special is just a mere reflection of his own opinions on woke culture and canceled culture, and he doesn’t give a crap if people hate his opinions or not. Frankly I don’t believe in some of the topics he brought up in his special, but I’m not going to go rant about it on Twitter.

I would also like to bring up how Dave Chappelle has not apologized for his jokes, and he should not have to say sorry to anybody. The executives at Netflix apologized to their viewers for the special, which is dumb by the way and I’ll get to that in a minute, but not Dave. He is standing his ground on this whole mess and I applaud him for doing so. An apology will just be him admitting that what he said was wrong when clearly it wasn’t. Sure he said some outrageous jokes about LGBTQ and other social groups, but he didn’t say those things to be hurtful. Dave making jokes about people being too sensitive these days, and then having this social media outrage just proves his jokes to be true. Netflix should not have apologized for the special because it makes them look spineless towards the Puritans.
The Puritans basically want to metaphorically burn Chappelle at the prye via cancellation, but ironically their attempt to cancel Dave has just made him more popular. Hell, he recently had a sold out show in London, and he said there that if Netflix takes down his special, he’ll just do a tour around the US(which will make him a lot of money). The hate he is getting is just making him stronger, like throwing wood into a fire, and what’s happening to Chappelle is very similar to the attention that South Park usually attracts.

The cartoon that started as a satirical view on society, religion, culture groups, and social trends has evolved into a documentary about modern-day life, South Park is notorious for pissing off just about everyone because they have the guts to expose the idiocracy of today’s world. Everyday feels like an episode of South Park, from protests over a fucking comedy special, to almost everything form of media being used for a poltical agenda, and to people being publicly shamed for having an opinion that differs from the mainstream culture, it’s a fucking mess. I’m getting sick and tired of seeing all these Puritans complaining about new shows and comic books for not being “woke” enough or for “hurting people’s feelings’ ‘, just shut the hell up already! Not everything has to be a political statement.
This is exactly why I like the dark humor that comes from shows like South Park or from comedians like Dave Chappelle, it’s because of shows and people like them that are brave enough to call people out on their bullshit. I’ve said it previous blogs that Woke Culture was started with noble intentions of dispensing justice on a social media/entertainment level, but now it’s becoming a form of censorship. Tarnishing old media for being insulting and cancelling people over some old immature comments is completely ludicrous, and let’s not forget controlling how new shows/movies get created. Woke culture carried an ideal of acceptance without ridicule, but those very same people would throw one of their own into a ditch if they have an original thought. It’s as if these people believe that they are the judge for what counts as “acceptable content”, and most of time their “acceptable content” is subpar political nonsense.
The point I’m trying to make is that this whole social media mess over Dave Chappelle’s The Closer proves that the Puritans who pride themselves for being above the bigots are no different from them. Cursing out people who liked the special is completely immature of them, and what should be happening is civil conversation explaining why exactly they found the special offensive. If everyone can stop fighting with each other and just talk about their issues in a neutral space, the world will be a lot calmer. Hell, world peace might be achieved if we can admit that we’re all assholes and just get over ourselves.
That’s all for now….I’ll see you all in the next blog.
