Blog #3: Justice for the “Justice League”

*NOTICE: THIS IS A SPOILER-FREE BLOG ABOUT THE SNYDER CUT!*

“I don’t care how many demons he’s fought in how many hells, he’s never fought us. Not us united” were the mighty words said by the Caped Crusader in the Justice League: Snyder Cut that is currently available on HBO Max, and my God, that movie was epic!

What started in 2017 as a myth of a much better Justice League film than the one we got in theaters, Zac Snyder’s original vision lit a spark within the DC Fandom. A spark that was able to persevere through the toxic banter amongst the DC fans, and was able to unite a group of people with an idea that will change the landscape of superhero cinema forever.

For a mere four hours, I witnessed a superhero film that actually deserves to be called a “film” rather than just a “movie”. The Snyder Cut was everything one could want from a DC film and so much more, but I expected no less from a film directed by Zac Snyder (I’m a big fan of the Ultimate Cut of his Watchmen film).

The pacing of the plot was pretty quick that it felt like a two hours long film, and all the extra two hours we got footage added so much more context to each character. Batman wasn’t some kind of comedian(save the funny batstuff for Adam West, God rest his soul), Aquaman felt like a lone wolf who was slowly warming up to the team, Flash was still funny but he was equally as courageous. We were able to see more moments of Cyborg with his father, and him coping with being half-machine, and Wonder Woman….where do I even start. In a nutshell, every Wonder Woman scene in this movie was ten times better than the whole WW84 movie.

Superman, he was a HUGE imporvement. No shitty CGI face to cover up a mustache, he still felt like a powerful being to be feared, and he looked really good in the black suit. The Superman we saw in this movie felt like the same Superman from Man of Steel, and that’s exactly what I was hoping for. Though it did feel weird for me to watch Henry Cavill as Superman again after binging Witcher. There were even moments when I was thinking “Calm down Clark, your Geralt is showing”.

Hell, even Steppenwolf is a much better villain in the Snyder Cut!

Despite all the love I’m giving to the new Justice League Cut, there is just one thing I did not like, or rather one thing I hated about the movie: WHY HELL DID JOSS WHEDON AND WARNER BROS. BUTCHER UP THIS MASTERPIECE IN THE FIRST PLACE?!?!

Justice League 2017 was just a show of major disrespect to Zac Snyder. First he has to leave production because of his daughter’s death(God rest her soul), and then you have these WB executives hire Joss Whedon, the Avengers dude(X-Force is still the better team), and they basically turned the League into some knock-off Avengers movie. All that forced humor, lack of character context, it was horrific.

I’m just really happy that Zac Snyder was able to complete his original vision, and he gave us an instant classic. Of course this wouldn’t be possible with us, the fans.

We stood united….

The movie was a 10/10 for me, and let’s all be proud of how each member of the fandom was able to put aside their differences, and they were able to work together to bring forth something magical. Maybe our country can learn from us geeks about putting aside our differences for the greater good. An individual can be strong on their own, but people united can accomplish so much more.
